Kids these days....

I love listening to my grand parents’ and parents’ childhood stories. There is always a warmth in their eyes and excitement in their words as they fondly recollect – those were the days when…..’ And it is so funny that the years have gone by so fast that I now exclaim – ‘Gone are those days…..’ when I see kids these days.

Kids these days haveiPads’, ‘mobile phones’ and other gadgets to play with; when all we wanted then was to play outside. Kids these days need mobile apps to listen to their rhymes or lullaby for sleep; when all we wanted then was mom’s lullaby and dad’s bedtime stories. And this list can go endless... However, we should agree that they do not fail to create memories their own way to tell their next generation.

A sneak peak of the kids these days…

Who could have guessed that this 14 month old kid playing with her dad's mobile phone would bid an auction on eBay for a 1962 Austin-Healey Sprite car and also win it hands down? Neither me nor her dad could have ! Can you? Lucky for her, she is now the proud owner of the car as her dad decided to keep it.

Rasam - Spiced South Indian Broth

As the title goes, rasam is a spicy South Indian broth which takes its presence almost every day in a typical Tamil house. I know most of the south Indian readers would have by now moved to another page wondering who would even want a recipe for rasam (caught ya). In fact, there were so many questions in my mind before posting this recipe– ‘What if it is too basic for Indian readers? ‘, ‘What if it fails to get the attention of Non-Indian readers?’ etc.

But then, I would not be doing justice to my childhood and my native cuisine if I write for a food blog and not do a post about ‘Rasam’. Also, there might be people who are new to cooking or to be more specific, south Indian cooking who could be benefited by it. That convinced me totally!
So for those of you, who don’t know what it is all about –

Rasam literally means ‘Juice’ in Tamil and pronounced as ‘ra-sam’. It is prepared with Tamarind extract as the base with addition of vegetables and other spices. There are so many variations to it of which this is the most basic. It can be served hot as a soup but in a traditional meal, it is enjoyed along with steamed rice. Oh yes, did I tell you it is a life savior when you have your flu. Trust me; it is hot, sour and just the ‘ticket’ your throat needs when all of your other ‘doses’ refuses to help.

Besan Ladoo/Chickpea Flour Sweet Balls

If somebody asks me, 'What is your signature dish (sweet) all your friends rave about?' I will shamelessly scream that it is Besan Ladoo.

Ok! Before you judge me...

I prepared this delicacy for Diwali, one of the many other significant festivals in India.Yeah, we Indians love to celebrate. Seriously, This is the easiest Indian sweet dish I have ever prepared and can be done in a jiffy with only a trio of ingredients.

Now, tell me who wouldn't be elated if people rave over such an easy-peasy dish.

10 Types of People On WhatsApp

1. Hey there! I am using WhatsApp :

Yes. These are the people who are actually not using WhatsApp. Be sure to check their 'Last seen at' and it may date back to months or even years!
May their souls rest in peace.

2. The Drama queens/ The Love-struck:

Their WhatsApp status is always the 'not-needed' updates of their life. And most of the times, it is the 'not-so-happy' updates. It is always a status of frustration, breakups, loneliness and disappointments. They make us want to tell "Please, Save this drama for your mama!"
And there are these ‘lovey-dovey’ couples whose status makes us scream – “Please, save this for your bedroom!” And a special message for them -

DIY Personalized Fridge Magnets

Hello All ! Guess who's back after a long, blissful break where I ate lavish amounts of food and had copious amounts of fun.

So,earlier this week when I was loading  my pantry and refrigerator, found couple of promotional fridge magnets that have been given by companies. You know I can't throw away scraps, and you know how we love to re-create something nice out of these scraps like our Desk Organizer using tissue rolls, earrings holder using a photo frame.

Speaking of fridge magnets, my husband likes to have  a huge collection of them. So I thought why not give these dull babies a jazzy make over. These can be done in a  jiffy and that too with the things found around the house. These are kids friendly hence would make a great gift for father's day.
